Oddly out-of-place

After visiting Eger--chronologically out of place--we visited a stupa--physically out of place--just a few miles south of Salgótarján. The Stupa in Tar is the largest such in Europe, and is dedicated to Sándor Körösi Csoma, a linguist fluent in seventeen languages who founded the study of Tibetology.

While the experience was somewhat surreal, it was actually quite beautiful as well: the inside of the stupa has a rotating bell that rings softly, and the plain is quiet except for the sound of the wind, so the overall atmosphere was very contemplative and serene. From the stupa you can see for miles, and yet there's not much to see, so it's everything-and-nothing simultaneously. I found the experience of being there very moving.
